On June 8, the Family Pantry of Cape Cod kicked off the summer with its 4th Annual Benefit at the Wychmere Beach Club in Harwich Port, MA, which was chaired by Tom and Shelly O’Neill and David and Nicky Metzler.
Four hundred guests attended the fourth annual gala, raising over $150,000 for the Family Pantry. Attendees enjoyed a performance by North Shore Acapella, and Richard Waystack of Jack Conway & Co. and President of the Board of Directors of The Family Pantry of Cape Cod presented two awards, including the Founder’s Award and the President’s Award.
The Founders’ Award was created as a way to recognize one of the Pantry’s most dedicated business supporters each year. The individual must share the passion and vision of the founders who started the pantry 26 years ago. This year, the Founders’ Award was presented to Catherine D’Amato of the Greater Boston Food Bank. The Food Bank has been a partner of the Family Pantry since 1989, and today delivers food to the Cape nine days every month.
Additionally, the President’s Award is given to a person or family who is a strong supporter of the pantry over the years. The 2015 President’s Award was presented to Joan Our, the Our family and the Robert B. Our Company. The company, which works on road excavation and construction, has served as a dedicated and valued supporter of the Family Pantry’s mission for years.
As the largest pantry in the area, the Family Pantry serves anyone in need with no restrictions, thanks to the hard work of staff and over 450 volunteers throughout the year. In 2014, 2.4 million pounds of food was provided to 3,688 households consisting of almost 9,000 people, 2,695 of which were children. The number of people requiring services from the Pantry has doubled in the past seven years.
